What a whirl wind of a past few days we have had! We have had lots of people asking for updates on Elijah and how he is doing. In order to keep some privacy we decided to start this blog instead of putting everything on facebook. I hope this blog serves as a way for everyone to keep up with Elijah and how he is progressing and when he comes home how we are doing and learning!
I guess a good place to start this blog off would be with Elijah's birth story. As you may know my estimated due date was August 4th. I had a pretty easy last half of pregnancy once I got past the morning sickness and the subchorionic hematoma healed. My mom and dad went out of town for the 4th of July holiday, before she left she said my Aunt was in charge and if I went into labor to call my Aunt and she would take care of us until my mom could get back. I laughed and told her I was fine, I had no reason to think early labor was going to happen, to enjoy her time and I would see her with my pregnant belly when she got back. Now enters the first lesson I would have in parenting... you are and always be on their schedule, never say never! So here is the story of Elijah's birthday!
Tuesday evening we had our third of five child Birth classes and then went to see a movie because
Steve was off work. I kept feeling like I was leaking on myself and my back was hurting for a few hours but when I went to bed and relaxed it
quit. The leaking was off and on all night, it wasn't anything measurable I just had this feeling, I couldn't describe it.
When I woke up Wednesday I still felt like I was leaking so I decided I would call my Dr. and they recommended I come get checked. We went to the hospital at 11:40 and they told
us it wasn't my water, my cervix was still high and tight and he wouldn't be coming anytime soon. We left the hospital at 1:20 P.M, on July 4th. We went to my Aunts for a BBQ, I felt completely fine all day.
Steve left for work at 10:45 P.M. I was sitting on the couch about 11:15 and felt a pretty big gush of
fluid, I immediately looked down and thought "oh boy that can't be what I think it is!" I had several gushes over the next hour or so, I would lay down on my left side for 10 minutes and then stand up to see if I gushed, and I did! I called and they said I
should come in and get checked, I wasn't surprised at that answer I knew they couldn't diagnose me over the phone! After about an hour of gushes It stopped, I did some laundry, loaded the dish washer and took a shower, all with no problems. However I had tested positive for group B strep and was told if my water broke to come in immediately so I decided I should be safe and go in.
I figured I was being paranoid and It couldn't be my water so I
didn't even call anyone to tell them I was going in. I got there at 1:05 so 13
hours after we had just left thinking I would be sent home again. They nurse quickly checked me and looked up with a smile and simply said "OK." I asked what OK meant and she replied that I was dilated to a one and d they said my water had broke I was dilated to a
one and 60% effaced.I asked about my water and she said "oh yeah, it broke, your having this baby!" I felt the room start to spin and felt like someone would jump out and yell SURPRISE YOUR ON CANDID CAMERA at any moment, it took me a few minutes to grasp the reality that I was having a baby in the next 24 hours! So I had to call Steve and tel him he better leave work
because my water had broke! He asked if I was joking and I assured him I would never joke about that and yes this was really happening!
To Be continued...
